I am happy to learn about the initiative taken by some alumni of IIM Ahmedabad to start a new business school, FOSTIIMA Business School. In today’s technology-driven world, knowledge – not money – is the new capital, the new wealth. Intellectual property, rather than real estate, has become the measure of value. Education is, therefore, the key investment that can bring the highest returns to individuals, the community and the country. However, to be of immediate value, education must be focused on market needs, on the capabilities and skills that the economy needs. After all, most individuals look on education as a path-way for employment.
It is in this context that I particularly welcome the much focused courses that FOSTIIMA is offering, with post-graduate specializations in areas like retail, banking and insurance, tourism etc. This, and the fact that it is guided by the products of the best business school in the country (IIMA), should ensure that its graduates are of great quality and also industry-ready.
I wish this venture great success.
